Who Is ‘She-Hulk’s Wrecking Crew’s Boss?
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premiered on Disney+ on August 18, 2022 and is now halfway through its first season. The series follows Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) as she comes to terms with being a Hulk while also balancing a career as one of New York’s top lawyers. Walters is the cousin of Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), who is known for being able to transform into the incredible Hulk after he was bombarded with gamma radiation. When he and Walters are in a car accident, some of Banner’s blood enters a wound on Walters’ arm, allowing her to transform into She-Hulk.
**Spoilers for episode 3, “The People vs. Emil Blonsky,” of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ahead.**
Walters has faced some ups and downs as an official Hulk. On the one hand, she faces a torrent of sexism for being a female hero and also loses her job as a lawyer. However, this opens up an opportunity for her to serve as a lawyer specializing in superhuman affairs, with her first client being Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth). Blonsky was the villain known as The Abomination in The Incredible Hulk. However, in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, he is seemingly rehabilitated and seeking parole.
In the midst of Walters’ busy life as a lawyer, she also faces attacks from seemingly random foes who know her identity as She-Hulk. At the end of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s third episode, the Wrecking Crew shows up. The supervillain team has been rumored for quite some time to be appearing in the series and have now made their official appearance. Of course, given their less than impressive comic book history, She-Hulk made easy work of them. However, there might be something more to their appearance.
Who is the Wrecking Crew’s boss?
While the Wrecking Crew themselves weren’t a threat, their boss may be. After She-Hulk easily fights off the Crew, they are briefly shown regrouping in their construction van. They mention that their boss isn’t going to be pleased that they failed to get a blood sample from She-Hulk, as they were unable to pierce her durable Hulk skin. It’s obvious this secret boss is after She-Hulk’s blood for nefarious purposes, due to the unique properties of Hulk blood—as we’ve seen what that can do. However, this raises of the question of just who hired the Wrecking Crew? While not named, we can think of several characters who could be behind something like this.
Samuel Sterns (a.k.a. The Leader)
This secret boss in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law could provide an opportunity to reintroduce Samuel Sterns (a.k.a. The Leader) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans will recall that Tim Blake Nelson played The Leader in The Incredible Hulk. With Roth making his return as Abomination, many wondered, even before this development, if there was a chance Sterns would reappear, too. Now, it’s hard to think of anyone who would be more interested in She-Hulk’s blood than Sterns. He is a genius and cellular biologist who has experiment with Hulk’s gamma-radiated blood before. If the MCU takes this route, they can reintroduce yet another major Hulk villain from Banner’s past.
The Hood
Marvel could also use this opportunity to introduce The Hood. After all, The Hood has been rumored to be appearing in Ironheart, portrayed Anthony Ramos. Hence, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to introduce him ahead of time in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Meanwhile, in the comic books, The Hood ran an enormous crime syndicate, Hood’s Gang, which the Wrecking Crew were a part of for quite awhile. If She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is drawing from the comics, The Hood would make a very believable boss for the Wrecking Crew.
Baron Zemo
Of course, Hood’s gang was far from the only nefarious team that the Wrecking Crew joined. At one point, they also joined Baron Zemo’s Masters of Evil supervillain team and helped him attack an iteration of the Thunderbolts team (who have an eventual movie on the way). The Wrecking Crew even stuck around when Zemo expanded his team into the Army of Evil. Meanwhile, in the MCU, Zemo (Daniel Brühl) has been noticeably absent since he disappeared during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He’s believed to be in prison, but we’re definitely anticipating his return. Perhaps he is already operating in the shadows through the Wrecking Crew.
Kingpin
Kingpin and the Wrecking Crew don’t have much connection in the comic books, but this doesn’t necessarily rule him out as being the boss. After all, Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) recently made his much anticipated return to the MCU in Hawkeye. He is a boss who tends to operate through henchmen rather than getting involved himself. Plus, Kingpin’s presence in the series would also explain Daredevil’s (Matt Murdock) appearance in the series, too. Daredevil is confirmed to be appearing in the series, but his role hasn’t been explained or revealed yet. Hence, Kingpin being in the series would explain both Daredevil’s presence and provide a strong boss for the Wrecking Crew.
