Will ‘Attack on Titan’ Continue Beyond Season 4?
Attack on Titan‘s three-part fourth season has been a thrilling and unpredictable ride. As it winds down after being spread across two years, viewers may be eager to know if a fifth season is in store.
Spoilers for Attack on Titan season 4, part 3 ahead
Based on the manga of the same name by Hajime Isayama, the series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that has been ravaged by man-eating creatures known as Titans. When a Titan kills Eren Yeager (Bryce Papenbrook)’s mother, he assembles a team to fulfill his vow to defeat every last Titan. Over the seasons, the situation has become more complicated as human affairs played a role in the Titans’ attack on Paradis Island.
The addition of more history and world-building culminated in Attack on Titan season 4, in which humans are now waging war on each other as the centuries-long Eldia-Marley feud erupts into violence. Viewers had to wait over half a year between part 2 and part 3 of the fourth season. However, the final part finally arrived on November 5, 2023, and the surprising ending will raise questions about what’s next.

Does Attack on Titan‘s season 4 finale leave room for season 5?
Attack on Titan season 4 ends on a somewhat ambiguous note. This season sees Eren, who once sought to protect humans from Titans, recognize the truth—that his people actually need to be protected from humans. As a result, he sets out to destroy the entire world, believing it’s the only way to protect Paradis. He nearly succeeds in doing so, wiping out 80% of the world. In the end, though, he is stopped and killed by his adopted sister, Mikasa Ackerman (Yui Ishikawa/Trina Nishimura). His death finally lifts the Titan curse, turning the Eldians back into humans and providing an opportunity for there to be peace.
Unfortunately, peace doesn’t come easily. It is revealed that Paradis is later decimated during war, and there are hints of another Titan rising up. Hence, even though Eren is gone, there is potential for the story to continue through a new generation of Titans.
Will there be a season 5 of Attack on Titan?
Unfortunately, it does not appear that there will be a season 5 of Attack on Titan. After all, season 4 was subtitled The Final Season, and the manga ended in June 2021. While this should dispel rumors of another season, those familiar with the show may still be a little skeptical. Attack on Titan has a bit of a reputation for stretching itself out a bit longer than necessary. After all, the series has been on the air for almost 10 years and only has four seasons to show for it. Some of the gaps between seasons and parts of seasons were necessary due to delays and catching up with the manga, but the extension of season 4 has felt a bit more intentional.
This is because both Part One and Part Two of Attack on Titan were touted as the official end of the series. Of course, as the parts played out with no satisfactory conclusion in sight, fans realized that there had to be another part. It wasn’t until the credits rolled on the Part One and Part Two finales that the series officially announced that another part was coming.
So far, there are no known plans for another season now that the actual final part of season 4 has aired, and no surprise announcements have been made about part 4. Still, given the ending of Attack on Titan, there’s room for it to continue in the form of a spinoff or sequel series. For now, though, both the Attack on Titan series and manga remain closed.
