Looks Like You’ll Be Able to Preview Windows 9 Next Month If That’s What You’re Into
No judgment.
Microsoft is quickly moving towards the next Windows version, but if they’re not moving quickly enough for you, you can get your hands on the software early with a Windows 9 preview. The final public version of Windows 9 won’t be available until early 2015, but to get in early next month, all you have to do is… allow automatic updates from Microsoft. *Thunder cracks in the distance.* Muahahahaha.
Seriously, though, beta software can be a dangerous thing, so if you’re sick enough of Windows 8 that you just can’t wait any longer, at least make sure to backup your stuff before jumping on the preview. It’s not Microsoft’s problem if their buggy pre-release software screws up your system, and they’re going to need to update you regularly as bugs are fixed, so take every precaution you can.
Reportedly, most of what you can expect from Windows 9 is a back-to-basics, responsive design. The OS on desktop computers will automatically prioritize a more traditional desktop computer experience over the touch-friendly “Metro” UI that Windows 8 kicked off, while mobile devices will predictably continue with Metro.
ZDNet is reporting that the preview will be publicly available in late September, so your wait to move past the growing pains of Windows 8 is almost over.
