Hell Yes We Want to See These New Wonder Woman 2 Details Come to Life
Get on it, Zeus.
Wonder Woman is still going strong in theaters, having just surpassed Deadpool at the domestic box office (with a fitting note of congratulations), and that success is already moving things forward on the sequel. We spent weeks not knowing whether Director Patty Jenkins would return (and we still don’t), but now we’ve at least heard something about the sequel, and we’re pretty excited about it.
According to information obtained by both Screen Rant and The Wrap, the Wonder Woman sequel will again be a period piece—taking place before her introduction in Batman v Superman—but this one will fast forward a bit from the World War I setting to … the 1980s. Yes, we’re going to get an ’80s version of Wonder Woman, which we can’t help but be excited about after nostalgic adventures like Stranger Things and the best part of X-Men Apocalypse being the sheer ’80s-ness of it all.
They also mention that it’s planned to be a Cold War tale, and previous statements from Jenkins herself about wanting to bring Diana to the United States make that all fit together pretty neatly—and leave us hopeful that she’ll be back for this ’80s espionage story. That also fits together pretty well with her appearance in Batman v Superman, where she was also doing some undercover work, and would help explain her taking part in yet another conflict while remaining largely unknown to the world of the DCEU for a few more decades.
What it doesn’t clear up is how Spoilers below if you somehow haven’t seen Wonder Woman yet! (What are you doing?)
His death in Wonder Woman may have seemed to preclude a return, but we’re talking about comic book movies here. No one ever dies for good. Both sites mentioned Chris Pine, with Screen Rant claiming that he will return, though the details of that return will likely remain unknown for some time. Anyone up for some rampant speculation?
