Inside Wonder Woman’s “Fierce & Intimidating” Design for Batman v. Superman
Batman v. Superman costume designer Michael Wilkinson discussed his designs for the film’s heroes with People’s Choice, from the marginal updates to Superman’s suit since Man of Steel, to Ben Affleck’s “powerful” Batsuit, to the Wonder Woman outfit that he had to design from the ground up. Wilkinson explains,
The director Zack Snyder wanted him to look as much like the comic book version as possible — to be respectful to the original source. As for the Wonder Woman suit, well, she has never been seen in a film before, so there was nothing to compare it to! There is, of course, the costume from the TV show.
Zack wanted our character to be a fierce and intimidating warrior — gritty, battle-scarred and immortal … There is ancient Greek script on Wonder Woman’s weapons, too.
Also, according to Wilkinson, “it was pretty hard to get Jason to get out of his Aquaman costume. It really became part of him.” In context, Wilkinson seems to mean that in the emotional sense, not the physical sense — regardless, it should clearly be acceptable for Jason Momoa to cosplay as Aquaman from here on out.
