This Wonder Woman Fan Comic Adds an Unexpected and Hilarious Twist
I’m having a bit of a Wonder Woman moment, and as I scour the interwebs for Wonder Woman-related content, this delightful fan comic has fast become my fave. I keep returning to it every time I need something to smile about.
One of the best memes to emerge from the Wonder Woman movie was that the whole film was essentially a succession of characters going, “Diana, no! Please be careful! You can’t do that! It’s too dangerous! Diana, please stop!” and Diana being like, “I’m going to do the thing anyway.”
This was one of the most empowering parts of Wonder Woman–Diana’s commitment to defying the odds and refusing to do what is expected of her or take the easier path. Her stubborn perseverance resulted in numerous posts along these lines:
The comic I so adore plays with this theme/meme and comes from illustrator and comics artist Tara Sham, who graciously gave me permission to share it here.
“I mean, that’s pretty much the summary of the movie right ?”
I just love absolutely everything about this–first, Diana as a Wonder Cat is drawn so adorably and perfectly, and as we know cats are rather independent-minded creatures who like to defy all warnings and Do The Thing Anyway, so if she were an animal I can definitely see Diana as a cat. Steve Trevor’s panicked, ultimately unheeded plea, familiar to every cat owner. The little touches here like the mischievous knowing expression on the cat’s face, and her perfect WW ensemble of gauntlets, lasso, collar, and diadem are just too much.
You can follow Sham on Instagram and Tumblr for more awesome artwork. She also has a Society6 shop. Let’s show her some love and maybe we’ll get some more Wonder Cat in the future.
