Let’s Listen to Wonder Woman’s Theme, “Is She With You?” From Batman v Superman

Recommended Videos

Even if you have mixed feelings about Batman v Superman (and goodness knows I do), it’s hard to feel disinterest in this soundtrack collaboration between noted film composer Hans Zimmer and synth/electronica musician Junkie XL. Watertower Music has released all 18 of the songs on the soundtrack for streaming on their YouTube channel if you want to give ’em a listen; you can also buy the songs if they strike your fancy.

Music is subjective, of course — but it sure does seem like Wonder Woman’s theme song is the best of the bunch! I frowned when I saw that her song was called “Is She With You,” because that line feels more like a joke about which of our heroes Diana might like to date rather than which hero she might choose to ally herself, but the song itself is a lot stronger than the title would suggest.

The melodic line makes good use of electronic strings, sort of like Rasputina, and pulses with tons of drums fit for a warrior princess. The softer section of the song, which doesn’t start up until about three and a half minutes in (after the epic choral singing parts), sounds appropriately mournful. The song switches between harder-edged electric strings and cleaned-up synthesized string chords, personifying the waves of emotion that one could imagine Diana would feel about coming out of retirement to break up a fight between a bunch of super-powered, machismo-rattled jerks.

What do you think of the soundtrack?
