X-Men: Days of Future Past Adds Another Cast Member, ‘Cause One More Mutant Can’t Hurt, Right?
Mutatis Mutandis
Let’s take a look at this picture X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer tweeted. There’s Singer, obviously, and HMORE would be Iceman Shawn Ashmore. We have Sirs Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, the latter managing to be unsurpassingly majestic even when shot from the back wearing a hockey jersey with an unfortunately placed spotlight on his noggin.
But wait. Who’s CANTO?
That would be new cast member Adan Canto, who responded to this tweet with “Thrilled to be [an] X-Man.” A few days ago the actor, best known for playing Paul Torres on Fox’s The Following, responded to a tweet asking about his upcoming projects with “I might turn into a ball of fire if someone pisses me off.” That could be a reference to the mutant he’ll play in Days of Future Past, or maybe it’s just a general statement. Hey, who hasn’t watched Hercules and wished they could light themselves on fire Hades-style when someone angers them? It’d be a pretty cool thing to be able to do, if somewhat dangerous on the subway. Maybe Torres just likes Disney.
But, realistically, it probably is a mutant reference (sigh). Digital Spy notes that he could be talking about the Brazilian New Mutants member Sunspot.
I’d say we’re reaching critical mass for mutants in Days of Future Past, but we reached that like three mutants ago. “Concerned” is too strong a word for my feelings on this movie, but “curious” isn’t quite judgmental enough. I’m curicerned.
