No Plans Yet for the X-Men to Join Marvel Movies, Despite Disney Buying Fox

You may remember that when Marvel and Sony finally struck their deal to incorporate Spider-Man into the rest of the Marvel cinematic universe, it caused some shifts in the Marvel movie schedule. Good news: The X-Men (and Fantastic Four) now residing at the same studio, thanks to the Walt Disney Company’s buyout of Twenty-First Century Fox, won’t disrupt the upcoming Marvel schedule and delay movies we’ve already been waiting for.

The bad news—depending, of course, on how you feel about the X-Men joining the MCU at this point—is that there are no real plans to incorporate them yet at all. Speaking to Vulture, Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed that any future connection between the X-Men and the MCU would come after anything Marvel has already announced. He told them, “We’ve announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted.”

2019 isn’t really that far away, though, but Feige also mentioned that the people behind the scenes at Marvel aren’t even thinking about how to work in their new characters yet, as the details of the merger haven’t yet been finalized, and even people ate Feige’s level are out of the loop. “There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it,” he said. On the other hand, Feige has mentioned before (with Spider-Man, of course) that there are rough contingency plans for different scenarios within the MCU, including actor availability and character rights.

So, it’s likely that there’s already a vague idea of how the X-Men could come into play in the MCU in terms of story points, but no specifics as far as what movies would be made, what their actual plots would be, and which ones would be used to interconnect them.
