We Officially Know the Title of the X-Men: First Class Sequel

Oh, the business of anticipating movies. It can be painful sometimes, like when the team takes a painstakingly long time to get their stuff together and actually agree to it. Luckily for us, when it comes to the X-Men: First Class sequel–that is, a sequel to a prequel–it actually seems to be moving at a reasonable pace. Set to open in the summer of 2014, the title of the upcoming film has now been revealed.
The film is officially to be called X-Men: Days Of Future Past. While details of the script are still being kept under lock and key, the title of the film is taken from a two-issue arc in which Kitty Pride (who was played by Ellen Page in X-Men: Last Stand) uses her powers to transfer her powers to her past self and help “alter a series of events that lead to a mass mutant round-up and subsequent mass imprisonment.”
Here’s a little wikipedia snippet about the story:
“The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. She succeeds in her mission and returns to the future, but despite her success, the future timeline still exists as an alternative timeline rather than as the actual future.”
It’s unlikely that the film will act as a direct adaptation of that story, but we’re glad at least to have some more hints as to what direction the sequel is headed into.
James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Kravitz, Rose Byrne, and Nicholas Hoult are all either already signed on or likely to soon be signed on to reprise the roles they played in the first film. The film will start shooting in January in order to accomodate Jennifer Lawrence‘s shooting schedule for Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
