Writers Chosen For Y: The Last Man Film From A Comic Book TV Show

Writer Brian K. Vaughan has had great success in Hollywood writing and producing for Lost, and although he just returned to comics this week with a new series called Saga with artist Fiona Staples, it’s some of his other comic work getting attention today. Vaughan’s hit series Y: The Last Man, which we knew was eventually getting made into a film, now has writers attached from another comic book TV show.
Writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia are in final negotiations to bring Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra’s comic to life on the big screen according to The Hollywood Reporter. The duo were writer/producers on FOX’s Human Target, plus the TV shows Charlie’s Angels, Warehouse 13, and Jericho.
The film is bring produced by New Line Cinema and will adapt the story of a world where some type of disease/plague simultaneously kills every mammal with a Y chromosome. Save young man Yorick Brown and his capuchin monkey. The comic book follows his travels attempting to figure out what happened and witnessing what a world without men is really like. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it, it’s a great one and a series that is completed.
“The project has been long in development at New Line and came close to taking off in an incarnation with a script by Carl Ellsworth and D.J. Caruso attached as director,” writes THR. “Now Federman and Scaia will go back to the drawing board.”
Here’s hoping they do it justice.
