Fans Create Petition to Ban Zack Snyder From Justice League and the DC Movie-Verse
More than a few fans are apparently really not happy with how Zack Snyder handled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Judging by their reaction, it seems they believe he didn’t exactly handle it so much as he bungled it so bad that they’ve now created two petitions to have him removed from ever playing in the DC Universe again. According to CBR, the two petitions launched in response to the aforementioned movie, which, despite its pretty darn solid box office take of ~$500 million worldwide, stands at a piddly 29% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The first of the petitions, titled “Boot Zack Snyder off of Justice League,” currently stands at 5,801 of 7,500 signatures as of this writing. This one makes no mention of his possible future with the DC movie universe, it simply focuses on his next DC project, Justice League. The opening of the petition reads, “Zack Snyder is not the person to bring the Justice League to the big screen. He’s had two chances now to adapt DC characters and has produced middling results.”
The second petition, “Remove Zack Snyder from the DCEU,” has 843 signatures out of a goal of 1,000. It takes a much more broad stroke stance on Snyder, which (as you can see) states that he’s not the right person to be in the universe at all. The petition reads, in part:
He’s a great visual artist, but cannot tell a good story. The only chance of redemption for DCEU is to hire a director who’s not as polarizing as Snyder, who understands the characters well, doesn’t make them roam away from their mythos and balance the tone of the future movies.
What’s clear from both of these petitions is that fans are laying the blame for DC’s recent movie troubles solely on the doorstep of Snyder, who DC’s backed since their early days of exploring the movie frontier. It’s highly, highly unlikely that DC will actually take action on one of these petitions, especially the one concerning Justice League, which is due to start shooting in April. Given that, it feels like unless Snyder makes an equally unlikely change in his style, DC’s movie troubles are far from over.
