Play the Original Legend of Zelda in 3D Pixel Art Glory in Your Browser
It's boring to go to work! Take this.
The Legend of Zelda is 30 years old this year (first released February 21, 1986), and Nintendo’s not the only one celebrating. Fans are getting in on the action, too, with the latest example being a three dimensional reimagining of the franchise’s first game from the NES. It’s not just fin to look at the pixel art aesthetic, though; you can play it for yourself right in your web browser.
So far, the game is largely unfinished, with boomerang bugs and only the first three dungeons being playable. It does, however, also work on mobile devices, which is a nice touch. Scott Lininger and Mike Magee, the developers behind the project, are still working on completing the game and performing bug fixes, and you can keep up with how progress is going and report bugs yourself on the tribute’s Facebook page.
Eventually, if Nintendo’s legal team holds off long enough (which I wouldn’t get too optimistic about, personally), they’re planning to add additional features on top of the completed game like a speed run timer and a master quest. For now, it’s a fun and convenient way to waste some time that’ll probably just make you want to go back and play the original in its entirety, and all of that sounds just perfect to us.
