J.J. Abrams loves his secrets, and he’s managed to keep this one really well.
The trailer doesn’t spell it out aside from how the title is revealed at the end, but J.J. Abrams confirmed the nature of 10 Cloverfield Lane when speaking to Collider. The movie was originally developed under different titles to throw everyone off, but make no mistake:
The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.
The movie is supposedly not directly tied to the events of the original Cloverfield, and it’s certainly not shot in the same style, but it takes place in the same universe. It’s unusual that such a secret is kept this close to release (it’s out on March 11) in the modern world, and in this instance, we appreciate Abrams’ efforts. The cast is certainly promising with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman. What do you think?
