After crossing the finish line at the Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, former U.S. sumo champion Kelly Gneiting broke the Guinness World Record for “Heaviest Person to Complete a Marathon.” Weighing exactly 400 pounds, Gneiting finished the marathon in 9 hours, 48 minutes and 42 seconds, having jogged the first 8 miles, then walking the last 18. For comparison, the winner of the marathon, Markos Geneti, finished it in slighty over 2 hours.
Gneiting told reporters that he was delirious around 10 miles in, and knew he reached mile 15 when a friend came along and brought him clean socks. He lost about four pounds from running the marathon alone.
