Executive producer Al Jean announced that a major character will kick the bucket in The Simpsons‘ 25th season. But who?!
Is this just an attempt to keep the aging show in the news? Probably. Do I care? No. This season is going to have Guillermo del Toro for the Treehouse of Horror opening, a guest appearance by Stan Lee, a Simpsons/Futurama crossover, and now a major character death. Things are getting intense. As to which character will die, Jean said:
“I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is.”
Knowing The Simpsons, this doesn’t really narrow things down much. A whole slew of actors have won Emmys for work on the show, often for voicing multiple characters at once. Heck, people were winning Emmys for The Simpsons before I was born. It’s really anybody’s guess as to which of them is getting booted. Besides, they’ll probably do everything they can to mislead us in the time leading up to the episode. My preliminary shot in the dark would be that it’s Marge’s mother, voiced by Julie Kavner, but don’t hold me to that.
Whoever it is, I’m sure they’ll depart in proper Simpsons fashion: silly, ridiculous, and kinda heartfelt nonetheless.
