This week in Editors’ Picks: Max says goodbye, Rollin says hello, and James says goodbye and hello.
James’ pick: Rollin Bishop
Wednesday was actually esteemed Geekosystem family member Max Eddy’s last day (his goodbye is below), but this week also marked a new beginning. Weekend Editor Rollin Bishop has moved up the ranks and joined the fulltime staff. If you’ve been reading the weekend, you’d already know he’s topnotch, but if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat.
Rollin is not only intelligent and entertaining, but if this guy doesn’t have geek credentials, I can easily say — without knowing you — that you don’t either. So, it’s time to usher in a new era: The Era of Rollin. May his associate editorial tyranny reign supreme.
Rollin’s pick: New Beginnings
Readers might have noticed that I’ve shifted from the weekend to the weekday. As of this past Monday, I’ve been promoted to Associate Editor. For everyone else, this means seeing a lot more of my byline. For me, this means moving to New York in order to do the kind of work that I’ve always wanted to do. I started working for Geekosystem as a freelancer last year while still waking up in the morning to put my time in at a local warehouse. The hours were long, the work was tedious, and I’d come home exhausted and unfulfilled. Every week, I put together two articles for the site and that’s about all the energy I could muster.
I quit that job to become Geekosystem’s weekend editor. I’d been offered a position where I could write on the regular and, after much deliberation, I knew I had to take the chance. Now, that chance has paid off and I’m excited to bring my own particular spin on things like Iranian railguns, Adventure Time, fighter jets, and rocket launches.
Max’s pick: Wilco, Gin, and Everything Else I Didn’t Get to Write About While Working Here
By the time you read this I will be gone, but because I didn’t time my departure as deftly as Eric, I am doing so in the middle of the week. So, by the time you read this, I will have been gone for two days.
18 months ago I was hired by Geekosystem and I couldn’t have been more grateful. In that time they’ve let me write about fighter jets, The Tupac Hologram, beer, more beer, spaceships, Shaye St. John, Adventure Time, Iranian railguns, Yeah Yeah Beebiss I, rocket launches, and so many other topics I honestly cannot recall them. They even gave me the entire weekend to play around with for the better part of a year. However, you probably know me best from our planking post.
Since coming here I feel that I’ve grown a lot as a writer, which is great, but that’s not what’s really all that important to me. Geekosystem gave me a place to share my passions with all of you, our gentle readers. I hope that you’ve had some good times reading my work, because it’s been a blast writing it for you. Thanks to everyone at Abrams Media for giving me this opportunity, and to all our commenters who caught my mistakes and (numerous) misspellings. I’ll see you on the webnetatron.
