The BBC is reporting the death, at the age of 79, of Roy Skelton, a name that won’t be very familiar to many of the people who have heard his voice.

Saying a particular small set of words.

Over and over.

In addition to creating the iconic Dalek screeching, Skelton also voiced the Cybermen and the Krotons. His career also extended to voicing two characters on the long running and beloved series Rainbow, which is best explained to Americans as a British version of Sesame Street with no actual connection to Sesame Street.

In the spirit of his connections to British comedy and British science fiction, we wholeheartedly say “So long, and thanks for all the fish.”

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
