The Terminator reboot is determined to cast its Sarah Connor before it casts anyone else, and we can’t really disagree with their choices.
Then again, if it were up to us we’d probably start every audition by asking the actress “Are you Sarah Connor?” and observing her reaction.
Three women are so far in the running: Brie Larson, of Scott Pilgrim and 21 Jump Street, Emilia Clarke of dragons, dragons, and dragons, and now, Tatiana Maslany, the actress in the lead (and also a majority of the supporting roles) in Orphan Black. From THR:
The other major roles to be filled are leader John Connor (Tom Hardy is the prototype) and Kyle Reese, the man who will become his father. But sources say Paramount, director Alan Taylor and star Arnold Schwarzenegger want to select the girl before casting the guys.
Alan Taylor is currently best know for directing high fantasy, with several episodes of Game of Thrones as well as Thor: The Dark World under his belt, and I’m interested to see what he does with one of cinema’s enduring original sci-fi premises. Last we heard of a release date on the planned trilogy, we’ll be seeing the first installment on June 16th, 2015. That gives Taylor and company some time to continue their casting process before they really have to buckle down.
With the pool of actresses they’re pulling from, it seems like they’ll turn out okay, busy television shooting schedules allowing.
