A few years ago IMDb told me that a Jurassic Park 4 was in the making, starring Natalie Portman. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull happened instead. Needless to say, I was disappointed. But now Stephen Spielberg might maybe possibly potentially be making it up to those of us who would embrace pretty much any new movie about dinosaurs.
Spielberg has recently been reported as meeting with writer Mark Protosevich to brainstorm ideas. The talks are still incredibly rumor-y and have been referred to so far as “simply exploratory,” but given that the franchise made studios over $2 billion back in the day (and that’s NOT counting merchandising), visual effects have advanced miles and miles from the (impressive) place they were when the first film was released, and considering that somebody is currently talking about making a movie Dinosaurs vs. Aliens, I’d say the cinema landscape is primed for this sort of thing right now.
And for doubters of the potential fourth installment, I simply say that I embrace anything that allows people to make dinosaurs do this.
