Some interesting Captain America related news this morning. The biggest? Marvel’s next Captain America installment will go head to head with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel. Read on for more on that, plus details on the third film, and the lengthy deal Sebastian Stan signed up for.

We previously heard Man of Steel 2 was being pushed back to May 6, 2016. We took this as good news because it meant more time to develop the film which was rapidly turning into a Justice League prequel. However, the new date put the film up against an untitled Marvel Entertainment film. We’ve just learned that film will be Captain America 3.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

That’s the plan, anyway, creating the biggest superhero box office showdown in history. (Marvel Studios and parent company Disney staked out the date first.) Shooting schedules and postproduction could always impact the current blueprint, however. Also, Marvel and Disney have a second untitled movie scheduled to open that summer on July 8, so there is wiggle room.

Speaking of, Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo along with Marvel’s Kevin Feige, have confirmed to Collider the duo will once again lead the third film. They told the film site:

“Well now that Kevin [Feige] said it that means we can talk about it, I guess.  That’s great.  We’re just in the formative stages of it right now.  We just started breaking story with [screenwriters Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely and we’re just getting an idea of what we wanna do with it.  It’s crazy working on it before the movie even comes out because you want to see what people respond to in the movie.  You want to get some inspiration from what people like about the film so you go, ‘Okay, this is what we gotta lean into in the next movie’ or ‘this is what we should move away from, this didn’t work so well.’  So we’re just in that phase of breaking story but waiting to see how people respond to the movie.”

The last bit of Cap news actually pertains to his co-star Stan. His interview with Newsarama revealed he signed up for a whopping nine picture deal which he called “great job security. They also asked him if he’d become Captain America in the future, much like his comic book counterpart did. “I don’t know! They don’t tell me anything. That’s just the truth,” he said.
