Sneaky devils.
In a filmed interview at Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television, Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn mentioned that filming for Star Wars: Episode VII is underway. “Where?” you ask. “When? Who?” Your guess is as good as mine.
Yes, in keeping with just about everything J.J. Abrams has ever been involved with, the details still remain tightly under wraps. All we know is that cameras are rolling, the screenplay is on solid ground, and most of the main roles have been cast (!). From the interview:
We’re actually shooting some of it now. … We have a lot of [the cast in place]. We’re just not completely done yet.
As a moviegoer, I have to admit, I like going into the theater and not knowing what to expect. But as a person whose job it is to report on this stuff — come on, Abrams. Just a cast list. A premise. A title. Anything.
Long also confirmed that the movie will take place 35 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. Fun fact: that’s almost how long it’s been since Return of the Jedi’s original release. Those of you who were alive in the ’80s may now join me in feeling impossibly old.
