Jeff Bridges Might Go Forward With Adapting The Giver to Film

In 2006 Jeff Bridges and director Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) came very close to producing a film adaptation of Lois Lowry’s classic The Giver. The film never got off the ground, however, and in 2007 Warner Bros. took over the rights. Now, Bridges and producer Nikki Silver have re-acquired the rights and are planning to try again.

Bridges first became interested in The Giver when his daughter read it in high school, imagining his father in the title role. Now, however, his father has passed on and Bridges feels the time is right for him to take on the role.

We figure if there’s anyone we’d trust with this, it’d be The Dude, so why not? And Bridges does seem like the ideal casting for the part.

So what do you think? If production actually takes off this time, will you look forward to the movie? Or is it too soon to tell?

And most importantly, what are they going to do with that inconclusive ending that toooootally pissed us off when we were kids?
