Men in Black was awesome. Men in Black II, which came out eight years ago, was eh. Where will the third Men in Black movie fall on the awesome-eh spectrum? Unclear, but there are three key facts which may sway you, confirmed by director Barry Sonnenfeld: The movie is “ready to roll,” MiB stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have signed on, and — brace for possible facepalm — the movie’s going to be in 3D.

Showbiz411 has the scoop:

Director Barry Sonnenfeld tells me that “Men in Black 3-D” is ready to roll. Will Smith has signed on, Tommy Lee Jones is in, and a script is awaited.

Yes. I did say 3D. “Men in Black 3″ will be in 3D. Sonnenfeld says it is so. Why not? Everything else is, and this is one movie that might be cool in the process.

No word on dates, although the author of the piece speculates that Paramount needs a hit Memorial Day in May of 2011.

Color us skeptical about a 3D Men in Black, though it does have in its favor the fact that the last MiB came out almost a decade ago and the franchise is due for revitalization. We are really glad, however, that the much-feared 3Dification of the final Batman movie is not happening.
