The realm of video game box art can be fairly dominated by bestubbled white guys in armor carrying big guns or bigger swords, even in games where the main character’s physical appearance is determined entirely by the player from a wide variety of options. Even for titles like BioWare’s Mass Effect, famous for having an incredibly popular female version of the main character Shepard, the face on the box is the male version. Lobbying by ME fans did eventually result in the inclusion of (the affectionately dubbed) FemShep in a launch trailer and collectors edition box art, and it seems that BioWare has taken the idea a step further for its newest RPG, Dragon Age: Inquisition. As confirmed by the game’s creative director Mike Laidlaw, the figure on the official box cover was intended to be gender neutral, to better represent the diversity of the game’s character options.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
