Age of Ultron, Lee Pace, Winter Soldier‘s DVD Short: It’s a Marvel News Roundup!

While the ongoing saga of who’s going to direct Ant-Man continues, the rest of the Marvel juggernaut (well, not Marvel’s Juggernaut… but you get the idea) rumbles along with Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the upcoming DVD release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Here’s what’s happening (and notably not happening, in the case of Winter Soldier) in the other parts of the Marvel universe.

Writer/director Joss Whedon tweeted this picture yesterday, reminding everybody that even though it might be more than a year away, Age of Ultron is moving right along. Moving right along so fast, in fact, that nobody has any time to film a short for the Winter Soldier DVD.

Well, not really. Marvel has stated before that their One Shot series is for when they have a good idea to put into production, not just for every DVD release, and they’re putting that maxim into place with Winter Soldier. It will, however, be the first Marvel movie to ship to home video without an accompanying Marvel short since Iron Man 2. We’ll have to wait until Guardians of the Galaxy reaches the small screen or longer for another.

And speaking of Guardians, when it hits theaters this summer we’ll be getting our first good understanding of Lee Pace‘s Ronan the Accuser, who by all accounts appears to cut quite the impressive figure (seen above lifting team heavy Drax the Destroyer by the neck), a bit more burly and nasty and hands on that Pace’s usual roles, even when they’re villains. The actor is quite interested in showcasing the character more than the couple of frames we’ve seen in the trailers. He told Hitfix:

I mean he’s nuts. I mean I’ve never played anything like it and I’ve had such a good, it’s one of those things where you don’t know how to approach something like this. This is not [Halt and Catch Fire‘s] Joe MacMillan. You can’t think, ‘Well, you know, this is my relationship with my father…’ It’s not that. There’s none of that, you now, kind of ‘This is how I would go about dealing with these problems.’ It’s a complete kind of act of imagination. But in the hands of James Gunn, I’m such a fan of his movies. So it’s very much a creation of his and I found my self being like, “Alright, let’s do it. You tell me what you’re into here.

Ronan is a servant of Thanos, whose voice actor (at least) was recently recast to put Josh Brolin in the role. Since the Mad Titan won’t be taking center stage as a villain until the third Avengers movie, it’s unlikely we’ll see much of him in Guardians, and Pace also complained that he hadn’t seen much of some of Guardians‘ central characters.

Yeah, I’m really excited to see [Groot] because we didn’t get to work with him on-set. Both Groot and Rocket were never there.
