Yes, it’s true, the Sorcerer Supreme is one step close to hitting the big screen as Marvel has finally decided on who will direct him.
And they’ve chosen…Scott Derrickson. He’s previously written and directed horror flicks like The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister so I wouldn’t be surprised if that was our first clue as to the direction of the Doctor Strange film. Marvel’s Kevin Feige previously said the film needed to be “a Ditko/Kubrick/Miyazaki/The Matrix mind-trip.”
Back in February of this year, we ran a rumory story about Marvel Entertainment choosing between four directors for their Doctor Strange adaptation (and then a week later Feige told us all to calm down about it). Derrickson wasn’t on that list, and while The Hollywood Reporter cites the writers mentioned at that time, Kung Fu Panda’s and Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger as possibly still in the running, there had been talk of Marvel going for a talent who could both write and direct, and Derrickson fits the bill.
Meanwhile, still no movement on Ant-Man’s new director. The last we heard, possible Edgar Wright replacement Adam McKay seemingly declined the job. Who would you like to see play Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange?
