This neat short film, titled “8-Bit Gary” and directed by Mortar Inc.’s Docter Twins, is ostensibly about the DVD upconversion capabilities of Toshiba laptops, but we know the truth: Really, it just makes you wish that the “8-bitinator” was real. Thanks to the vaguely Capsule Corp.-looking device, a guy named Gary is converted into a pixellated, bleep- and bloop-emitting avatar and then ‘upconverted’ back into a musclebound hunk. Hilarity ensues.
Fun, impressive fact: According to Design Taxi, the 8-bit Gary costume consisted of more than 3,000 hand-cut foam boxes.
