If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly looking for new ways to tap into your distilled reserves of video game nostaliga. Mapstalgia, a thriving new Tumblr that popped up a few days ago, seems to be the perfect, unusual-but-effective way to do that. It’s my nostalgia drug of the morning. The premise is simple: People draw video game maps from memory, but somehow the result is so much more than that.
There’s a good mix of games new and old, so if your sweetheart was the NES, you can find your World 1-1 and Zelda maps. If you ground out countless hours in Counter-Strike or Tribes 2 or even Team Fortress 2, you’ll find yourself represented here as well. The number of submissions seems to be blowing up, and there have been several posts during the course of my writing this, so be sure to check it out and maybe draw a few of your own. I’m partial to Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy and the original Duke Nukem game, but my memory is pretty bad and my drawing is worse, so I’m just hoping that someone else out there who feels the same way.
You really owe it to yourself to check out some more at the source.
