Get ready to follow yet another awesome online video series — Webby Awards creator Tiffany Shlain’s new project, The Future Starts Here, is set to release its first episode tomorrow. Judging from the trailer, we’re guessing it’s going to be pretty dang awesome.
Produced by The Moxie Institute as part of the new AOL on Network, The Future Starts Here seeks to explore the ways in which technology shapes what it currently means to be human. With episode titles like “Technology Shabbats,” “The Creative Process in Ten Acts,” and “A Case for Optimism,” it will most likely be a great companion to already existing cultural and analytical shows like PBS Idea Channel. Each episode will run about 5 to 8 minutes, and a new one will come out every week starting October 11th.
One of Newsweek’s “Women Shaping the 21st Century,” Tiffany Shlain founded the Webby Awards way back in 1996 (to put in in perspective, Youtube was about a decade away from being created, and Newsgrounds has only been up for a year or so. Remember when Newgrounds was the big place to find videos? Crazy). Since then she’s been working with The Moxie Institute to create engaging films, videos, and art installations about the intersection between social awareness and technological development.
