News has been slowly developing on the upcoming Gotham TV show, and it’s quickly sounding like a Batman-themed version of Smallville, which is just fine with me. Now we know that Gotham‘s young hero, though, is a bit younger than Clark was in that show, because the series has finally cast its 12 year-old Bruce Wayne.
No, that picture above isn’t actually the new Gotham actor, but it does haunt my dreams every time I think a show about a young Batman might be OK. The actual Bruce will be played by this fine young man, David Mazouz. You probably don’t remember Mazouz from co-starring alongside Kiefer Sutherland on Touch, because that show died in the cold cold wasteland of TV shows that nobody watches.
Fox decided to teach Mazouz that the reason we fall is so we can learn to pick ourselves up again when they signed a talent deal with him after Touch was canceled following its second season, which—whoa, wait. Touch was on for two whole seasons? Huh. You learn something new every day.
Well, if you want to get a look at Mazouz’s acting, you can check that out, at least.
This news fits in perfectly with what we’ve been hearing about the show’s take on Bruce Wayne, and with other iconic villains showing up as well as the news that they’ve also cast a young Catwoman, Gotham looks like it should be pretty interesting. Even if it fails, it should be fun to watch. Catwoman will be played by Camron Bicondova, who Deadline points out looks a lot like a mini-Michelle Pfeiffer and describes the character as, “a teenage orphan, skilled street thief and pickpocket who is dangerous when cornered.”
Now, we’re pretty much all set for the show to start shooting on schedule this month, so it won’t be long before we find out if the show lives up to the impossible expectations that a new, live action Batman show will face. It’s comforting to note that Den of Geek has pointed out that the showrunner, Bruno Heller, has already handled a young person with a lot on his shoulders in the short-lived Rome TV show.
That kid was only growing up to be Augustus, the first Roman emperor, though. This is Batman we’re talking about here, which is infinitely more important. Don’t let us down, guys.
