Hey, Walkers need to unwind after their long days of jump-scares, groaning, and devouring human flesh. Seriously, do you know how much energy all that shambling takes? So it’s only natural that someone would create a beer especially for zombies, and yes, the special ingredient is really brains.
Actually, the beer is called Walker, and it’s a beer that Dock Street Brewing Co. in Philadelphia created for humans to drink—unless they have some apocalyptic inside information that we’re not privy to, and they’re trying to make nice with our future zombie masters. (Guys, it won’t work. They will just eat you and take the beer. That’s just how zombies operate.)
Dock Street says, “[Walker is] an American Pale Stout brewed with wheat, oats, flaked barley, organic cranberry, and smoked goat brains.” Yup, the cranberries even make it a bit red, but we know what you’re here for. Behold, the ingredient that makes regular beer into zombie beer:
What would possess someone to make a beer specifically tailored to the walking dead? AMC’s The Walking Dead, actually. Dock Street’s Head Brewer, Justin Low, and Brewery Representative Sasha Certo-Ware are both “loyal fans” of The Walking Dead, and they wanted to celebrate the season finale in style.
The goat brains add a smokey hint of flavor to the ale, which packs a relatively high 7.2% alcohol by volume, so all of the atrocities you’ve faced at the hands of the Governor will soon be forgotten.
While team Geekosystem has pretty unanimously decided that we’d have to actually be zombies to drink anything that was cooked with brains, Dock Street has won its fair share of awards, and it’s a good bet the beer is pretty good if you’re less squeamish than we are.
If you want to find out for yourself, you’ll just have to shamble on over to their Walking Dead finale party at 7PM on March 30th. They’ll have live music from Face and the Filthies, goblets of Walker on hand, and a screening of the season finale.
If you need to, you can even get your Walker to go, because sometimes you need to stay on the move during the zombie apocalypse.
