British news sources are saying that Bob Hoskins has died at the age of 71 due to complications from pneumonia, according to his agent.

If this is true and not just some weird prank that everybody in London fell for at once, then we’ve lost a real acting powerhouse. Though he’s been retired for a couple of years — his last big role was in Snow White in the Huntsman in 2012 —  he starred in a number of films that were pretty formative for most nerds of our generation, including Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Hook, Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, Mona Lisa (which got him a Best Actor nomination), and, yes, Super Mario Brothers, which he never stopped calling the worst thing he ever filmed. He will be greatly missed.
