I haven’t been shy with my opinions on Nintendo’s penchant for milking its franchises for all they’re worth, but this creepy take on Link’s journeys makes my complaints look downright pleasant. Watch as Link acts out a dark metaphor about his rehashed adventures until he collapses from exhaustion… and still has to keep going.
Nintendo – A Sad Story: Part 2 isn’t quite as disturbing as as Part 1, but it also has a much more coherent message about Nintendo’s struggle to adapt and frustration that its familiar franchises just aren’t performing the way it wants.
Things really start to pick up once Nintendo President Satoru Iwata gets involved. Then, we get the Hyrulian version of Jedi ghosts and, if I’m interpreting this correctly, Link eventually turns to death’s sweet embrace to reunite him with his loving father (Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto).
I’m going to have Zelda-themed nightmares tonight, and not the fun ones where I get to fight Ganon, either.
