Spoilerphobes, beware! The scripts for the first five episodes of Peter Capaldi’s run as The Doctor have leaked on the Internet, and the BBC is hoping that fans won’t spoil it for each other. Don’t Google. Google and you’re dead. Spoilers are fast—faster than you can believe. Don’t turn your back. Don’t look away. And don’t Google. Good luck.
How did this happen? Well, the simulcast of the 70-minute plus opening episode is partially to blame. The simulcast means that translations have to be prepared well in advance, so scripts were sent to BBC Worldwide’s new Latin America headquarters in Miami for translation. Someone there spread them around the Internet, where they’re apparently readily available for anyone with basic search engine skills.
The BBC issued a statement to RadioTimes asking Doctor Who fans who don’t mind spoilers to please not ruin it for everyone, saying:
BBC Worldwide is currently investigating a security issue around Doctor Who Series 8 where unfinished material has inadvertently been made public. We deeply regret this and apologise to all the show’s fans, the BBC and the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly making the series.
We would like to make a plea to anyone who might have any of this material and spoilers associated with it not to share it with a wider audience so that everyone can enjoy the show as it should be seen when it launches. We know only too well that Doctor Who fans are the best in the world and we thank them for their help with this and their continued loyalty.
You’ve been warned, everyone. Just think of River Song and keep your spoilers to yourself.
It also seems that the episodes themselves were leaked online but removed before they could be downloaded. Still, the first episode will premiere in Cardiff on August 7th, so the only way to get to the worldwide premiere on the 23rd without spoilers may just be to unplug your Internet for that month.
