John Dies At the End

Here is a thing that’s on the very edges of The Mary Sue’s swirling Venn diagram of coverage, but that’s gotten sucked towards the center of the vortex by the fact that it’s very relevant to the interests of one of its writers. Namely me. John Dies at the End, a (previously online) novel in four parts written by Jason Pargin (now Senior Editor of Cracked.com) is pretty much my only foray into modern horror fiction. I devoured it in college on the insistance of a friend, and level to which it terrified me was only comparable to the level at which I found it to be hilarious.

At the age of 22, I had to pull my bed into the middle of my dorm room in order to get to sleep after reading it one night. That is how funny it is. So, yeah, I’m super excited to see that it’s being made into a low-budget horror film with physical effects and Don Coscarelli‘s long experience with B Movie horror and Paul Giamatti of all people. The trailer doesn’t do the story justice, but believe me, I’ll be watching this one intently.
