If you missed out on our giant series of Sailor Moon history posts, then you’ll probably be surprised to learn that in Japan, musicals based on the magical girl series were all the rage for years. A new musical based on the first manga arc debuted in 2013, and the Black Moon Clan arc sequel looks to be even more beautifully dorky. Oh, also, all the characters are played by women. That includes Tuxedo Mask. Did I get your attention just there?

I’ll be the first to admit that not all the senshi are strong singers here, but having seen last year’s La Reconquista (video below—though if you don’t know anything about the franchise, there are some pretty intense spoilers in there), where these actors really shine is in their grasp of the characters they’re playing. Like, look at how dang cute they are.

The latest musical, Petite Etrangere, is currently running in Japan, and its final performance on September 7 will be broadcast live on Niconico. I can’t hardly wait. I need more of Yuuga Yamato’s Tuxedo Mask in my life immediately.
