Terry Crews is a feminist, and he’s not afraid to show it. (Of course, it’s substantially easier to be vocal about gender politics on the Internet when you’re a dude, but that’s a conversation for a different day.) The proud author of a book on masculinity and rape culture, Crews is also super excited for the new Ghostbusters. Like, Caps Lock excited.
In a Reddit AMA earlier this week, Crews assured fans that the new addition to the franchise is set to become a classic:
OH! I LOVE KRISTEN! And you know what? First of all, as a card-carrying feminist, I am a BIG feminist, anytime I see women being stars – the stars that they should be, and being featured, and being highlighted, it makes my heart happy.
Because it’s long overdue. Women are great, and funny, and amazing, and smarter than men – for real! – and it’s a reboot that needs to happen. There are SO many good things about that, what can I say? It’s going to be a HIT. And GO LADIES! I’m with you! I can’t wait to make the premiere!
Although many people have shared Crews’ Ghostbusters excitement since the movie’s cast was announced last week, Feig’s film has already seen a backlash from fans who think updating the Ghostbusters universe with more representation will somehow ruin the original. (Not only is that worry illogical, it’s also beside the point: if nostalgia is more important to you than diversity, you should probably be more concerned about the ass  you’re wearing as a hat than protecting the honor of a film franchise.)
Anyone who’s willing to proclaim their feminism to the wretched hive of scum and villainy that Reddit can sometimes be is okay by me. Petition to see Crews get a Ghostbusters role as well?
