Best news! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has purchased a script from Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek (heck yeah, lady writers!) based on the legend of Hua Mulan, the inspiration behind the 1998 animated film.

THR writes that “Martin and Hynek met in high school, and have, among other projects, written for the Know Theatre of Cincinnati and rewrote a script for Amazon Studios.”

Considering that Disney’s live-action remakes have so far highlighted some of the more problematic aspects of its animated films (lack of diversity, unrealistic body standards and an adherence to toxic gender norms, to name a few) I could not be more excited that a live-action Mulan is coming down the pipe.

Anyone else ready to start fan-casting now?
