It’s as if millions of wallets suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear merchandising has happened.
Disney took to their official Star Wars blog to announce that you should probably start warming up your force grab soon, because all of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise is going to hit store shelves starting at midnight on September 4th. They said:
Fans wanting to be the first to get their hands on Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise can set their hyperspace and social media coordinates now: They will be able to visit their local retailer starting at midnight on September 4, and are encouraged to document their experience using the hashtags #ForceFriday and #MidnightMadness. A wide-range of products — from toys and collectibles, to books and comics, ebooks and apps, to apparel and lifestyle accessories — will be available at mass retailers and Disney Store locations worldwide, as well as on DisneyStore.com.
That’s right, there’s going to be a big midnight release for all the good stuff. There’s even going to be a big social media campaign with #ForceFriday and #MidnightMadness. No reports on people camping out in line quite yet, but if we’re being honest with ourselves, we’ll be camping out in short order. By that we mean a few months from now. Maybe.
While we’ve yet to see any actual specifics on what toys and goodies might show up, it’s still fun to imagine what we might be able to soon buy. Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on some new LEGO minifigs. Old Han Solo, anyone?
If you really can’t wait, you can head over to Sphero to check out their mysterious new project. It’s like a game of “Name That Pokémon,” except this time it’s not a Jigglypuff as seen from above. At least, we hope not.
