Demonstrating characteristic restraint, Disney has announced possible plans for channels or streaming services dedicated solely to Marvel and Star Wars content.
In a conference call earlier today, Disney CEO Bob Iger responded to queries about the company’s possible plans for a streaming service, saying
We have said that with these channels and these brands — ESPN, ABC, Disney, maybe even down the road something related to Star Wars and Marvel — we do have an ability as a company to take product, specifically filmed entertainment, television, movies, directly to consumers.
Obviously Iger’s comments weren’t definitive, but considering the amount and quality of content Disney will have accrued in several years’ time, I would be surprised if they didn’t start offering more specific ways for fandoms to get their fix (I would show no restraint with a Star Wars streaming service, let me tell you).
What do you think, gang?
