Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany Doesn’t Need An Emmy (Even Though WE All Desperately Want Her To Have One)

We all know that Tatiana Maslany is a super-genius actress who clearly deserves ALL THE AWARDS, right? I mean, you can’t be following her brilliant performance on Orphan Black and not know that. Well, despite this being an inarguable fact, it seems there’s one person who could give two craps if Tatiana Maslany wins an Emmy this year or not. And that person is Tatiana Maslany.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, which visited Maslany on set at Pinewood Toronto Studios, Maslany says she puts a higher premium on the quality of work she’s allowed to do, rather than on the awards she gets for doing it:

“Everybody wants me so badly to want an Emmy nomination. I just want to work on a cool movie with Paul Thomas Anderson, or I want to work with a cool actor like Jake Gyllenhaal. That means something to me,” she says, newly sprung from the hair and makeup chair between scenes.

Maslany steadfastly argues trophies are one thing, but it’s her latest movie or TV episode that will get the Canadian actress her next job: “A director looks at your body of work and says ‘that’s who I want to work with,’ not how many awards I have, or what I was wearing on the red carpet.”

“The fans can have the Emmy. I wish I could give the Emmy to the fans. They’ve literally have given us wings on this show,” an exasperated Maslany finally says.

Even though she apparently lost out on the lead in Star Wars: Rogue One to Felicity Jones (WHAT?! How awesome would it have been to have Maslany in the Star Wars universe?!), her bosses at Orphan Black are confident Maslany is ready for some next-level career moves:

[Graeme] Manson and Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett fully expect the Canadian actress to eventually clear every Hollywood hurdle.

“We want her (Maslany) to be a huge star. She should be considered for huge parts — as long as she keeps making Orphan Black,” Fawcett says with a devilish grin.

They even tease a bit about the future of Orphan Black, and how Maslany will be moving forward on the show:

“Now we have the show that existing with a serious audience. When we talk to Tatiana creatively, it’s about honoring the characters, especially the new characters, and about finishing the story. Because we know where this baby ends,” Manson adds.

“Especially the new characters,” huh? Hmmm. WHAT COULD HE MEAN?! In any event, no matter how many characters Maslany plays on Orphan Black, she’s absolutely brilliant – trophy or no – and there should be no doubt she’ll be making an even bigger mark on Hollywood and beyond soon enough.
