Remember Nickelodeon’s plan to reboot Hey Arnold! and Rugrats and other ’90s-era Nicktoons? Apparently, the end goal of this slew of TV reboots is to turn the world of Nicktoons into a massive crossover tentpole filmRugrats, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, and goodness knows what else will combine forces in a feature film that plans to fuse animation with live-action.

The Nicktoons team cited The Lego Movie, Space Jam, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Wreck It Ralph as influences, which makes sense, given the massive cultural mash-up they’ve got brewing. As excellent as those four influences are, though, it’s hard to imagine how this particular mash-up would work. The world of Ren and Stimpy doesn’t have much in common with, say, Hey Arnold! But films like Roger Rabbit and Wreck It Ralph emphasized the characters’ own self-awareness about their fictional constraints, so perhaps this ’90s juggernaut will attempt to do the same.

What do you think? Do you plan to watch these reboots as they run up into an eventual film? Or have you grown weary of nostalgia pieces designed with millennials in mind?
