China has been host to an innovative submarket of iPad knockoffs for some time now, but they’re finally getting the real thing: Apple has just announced that starting September 17, the Wi-Fi iPad will be available to consumers in China. They’ve also said that “[the]Â iPad will roll out to many more countries later this year and Apple will announce availability and local pricing for these additional countries at a later date.” (Though they’ve used this line before.)

The Chinese iPad will be pricier than its American counterpart: The 16GB iPad will sell for 3988 Chinese yuan, the 32GB for CNY4788, and the 64GB for CNY5588. ($590, $708, and $826, respectively.) No plans to release 3G iPads to China were announced.
