Apparently Quentin Tarantino isn’t the only dude stuck in a time warp today. Rapper T.I. was on DJ Whoo Kid’s radio show today to share his oh so needed opinions on how women apparently can’t be president because we’re “too emotional” and stuff. See, I wasn’t emotional until I saw this interview, but now… ?
Oh, yeah. Still not emotional. Not a single fuck given here.
Anyway, he was on the show and specifically said:
Not to be sexist but, I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman. Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well.
But the president? It’s kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally – they make very permanent, cemented decisions – and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen, or they didn’t mean for it to happen.
Why, T.I., what rash decisions could you possibly be talking about? Surely you don’t mean that age old silly argument about women launching a nuke just cause, do yo–
And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke. [Other leaders] will not be able to negotiate the right kinds of foreign policy; the world ain’t ready yet. I think you might be able to the Lochness Monster elected before you could [get a woman].
Oh. Oh. Dude, you’ve got to be kidding me. That is an outdated, ignorant opinion that belongs way, way back in the 1980s (secret government employees…). To be honest, I kinda liked T.I.. That track he did with Justin Timberlake way back when? Fire. But I can acknowledge that he’s being problematic with this harmful opinion that really shouldn’t even really be a thing anymore.
I can hear you all now: what does it matter, who listens to him anyway? Here’s the thing: T.I.’s got reach. The show he was on? It’s got a reach that goes farther than you think. People are listening, and whether they actively believe him and support his statements or not, that message is getting out there. It’s disappointing, to say the least.
