The Digging Deeper channel on YouTube hasn’t been active for very long, but they’ve already posted several interesting videos on subjects exploring everything from the horror genre in films like It Follows to, ahem, phallic representations in the vehicles showcased in Mad Max: Fury Road.

In their latest installment, they go in on the 2005 film Serenity, juxtaposing the famous film follow-up to the Firefly television series against famous John Wayne movies and other Westerns and space Westerns alike so you can see just how influenced it was by the predecessors of the genre.

It’s a really fascinating take on a film that was released ten years ago(!) in September, and it gives a fresh perspective on a movie that I’m going to have to go back and watch anew just to appreciate all of the tributes and homages that appear in brief frames.
