Nintendo and Final Fantasy fans have been waiting for news ever since Final Fantasy VII‘s Cloud Strife was revealed as a downloadable fighter for Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS last month, and that wait is finally over—in six more days.
Today, however, did bring the news of exactly when more news would come, which is a huge relief after November’s other brief tease that December 2015 would hold the last Smash Bros.-focused Nintendo direct event for the series’ current iterations. Series creator/director Masahiro Sakurai will unleash the final wave of Smash Bros. news on December 15, 2015 at 5PM ET:

That “and more” is only increasing excitement and speculation. In past Smash streams from Nintendo, Mewtwo has been announced as a downloadable fighter, and Roy and Ryu also made their debut, so expectations are running high for the upcoming event.
They’re even higher due to Cloud’s reveal well prior to the stream. The going assumption is that, if Nintendo was willing to give away something as huge as Cloud a month ahead of time, there must be even bigger news coming in this last video. It’s also widely assumed that Cloud will be available for download as soon as the presentation is over, as was the case with Roy and Ryu’s introduction. That seems even more likely based on how far along Cloud appears to be in development; he was announced in seemingly completed form alongside his own fairly elaborate stage.
With that in mind, it’s likely that he isn’t the winner of the DLC character Smash Ballot that ended in October on the official Smash Bros. website. That character, along with other possible additions, will likely be the big news on December 15. Let’s just hope it doesn’t play out like Imgur imagined:
… I’m still pulling for Ridley. *Ducks.*
