Whoever’s in charge of Deadpool marketing continues to excel at their job.
Yesterday, Fox held an event for fans in New York and L.A. advertised as a chance to see “first look footage” of the movie. Instead, attendees were shown the entire film and met some of its stars–Reynolds hung out at the NYC screening (see above), and T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Stan Lee attended the L.A. event.

The fan reactions to the movie started hitting social media soon after the screenings:
LITERALLY BEST MARVEL MOVIE. I was lowkey hella doubtful but by far best executed movie i’ve seen in a long time.

And like all marvel movies, make sure you wait for the tag at the end of the credits! Self aware and referential, perfect Deadpool.

I’m personally taking these reviews with a grain of salt since I imagine fans who were dedicated enough to brave yesterday’s cold (here in NY, at least) just to see some ‘first look footage’ have a different base level of excitement for Deadpool than I do. I also know that if Ryan Reynolds had rewarded me with a surprise screening, I’d have a hard time not being very enthusiastic about whatever we watched together.
That being said, this was a really smart move on the part of the Deadpool team, and they’ve successfully raised my hype slightly. Are you excited for February 12th, friends?
