Agent Carter‘s first season used a lot more green-screen techniques than I ever would have guessed upon first viewing. Whether it’s just a simple green-screen mask over a storefront to replace it with a more period-accurate laundromat logo, or a full green-screen background behind characters during some of the trickier on-location scenes, I didn’t really notice any of these changes the first time around … probably because I felt so captivated by the fast-paced story, but also because the visual effects used on the show seem pretty understated and well-used overall.
This lengthy visual effects reel starts out by showing some simpler changes, like lighting and contrast, then moves on to showing more complicated scenes, such as building exploding and car chases. It’s also impressive to see how little the actors had to work with during some of the more emotional scenes, such as Howard’s plane flight at the end of the first season. Of course you always know in the back of your mind that the actors are just looking at green-screen backdrops during scenes like this, but it’s still pretty amazing to see what that actually looked like!
