There are a few reasons why the movie version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World did not work as well as the comic books, most of which make it into this Honest Trailer send-up. Even the Screen Junkies’ jokesters have to admit that this movie’s a fun watch, though — provided you fit within its extremely niche target demographic. So, you’ve gotta be into the cultures surrounding both video games and the indie punk scene. Bonus points if you’ve read the Scott Pilgrim books beforehand. Unfortunately, that doesn’t describe a whole lot of people … hence the movie’s lackluster returns at the box office.

This movie should have helped catapult the comic book series to even wider levels of acclaim … if only the movie had figured out how to pack all of the original narrative’s nuance into the two-hour run time. Let us now join Screen Junkies in playing the role of the irritating pedant at the party who says, “it’s fun, but the comic book is way better than the movie!”
